  • 173,500 are in Division I
  • 109,100 are in Division II
  • 183,500 are in Division III

At the Division I level about 53% of student-athletes receive some sort of financial aid stemming from athletics. That number is even higher for Division II, 56%. Division III does not provide athletic financial aid, but over 75% of those student-athletes receive some sort of academic grant or need-based scholarship averaging $13,500.
